Repairing Hair Transplant
Dr. Bruno Jacobovski
40-year-old patient who suffered an oil burn accident on his scalp when he was only 3 years old.
He always had long hair to cover up the scar area, since almost all his right frontal side was affected by the burn. In addition, he also suffered from androgenetic alopecia on his left front and given the delicate situation of this patient, the case was approached in an integral manner and not only acting on the area injured by the scar.
The patient had reconstructive surgery in the year 2000 to achieve hair coverage, but given the techniques and technology of the time, 1 cm punches and grafts of this large size were used; although it was not possible to achieve good coverage, nor naturalness.
You can see some isolated and poorly distributed hair plugs in the right frontal area, making his dissatisfaction with the image even worse.
We performed a first intervention to increasing the coverage of its two recessions with an average density of 30 ufs/cm2 to avoid a possible necrosis, given the low vascularization of the burned area.
It was also performed an extraction of the follicular units grafted in the first intervention, in 2000, given its bad aesthetic result.
In a second time, after twelve months, we performed a new intervention with a medium density to hide the biggest possible part of the scar area, reducing his hairline of about 2 cm until it embraces the region where the plugs of 1 cm of diameter would have been grafted and to reconstruct all its right side until the union with the beard, achieving a natural and symmetrical result with his left side.
A third surgery was planned with the sole purpose of increasing the overall density of the last two interventions.
